Outline and explain two ways In which pupils homes and family circumstances may impact internal educational achievement (10)

Archer and Francis (2005) found that Indian and Chinese families have and set very high expectations and standards for their children because they value education highly seeing as the parents and grandparents didn’t have the same opportunities and advantages that education has to provide for our generation today as opposed to when they were in school. So children who grow up in those types of family households are more likely to adopt those kinds of attitudes towards learning. Also in Chinese families the mother is most likely a stay-athome mother, meaning that she has time to help her children with their school work meaning that they will have a better understanding of the work than most other pupils meaning they get better grades. However, there are households, such as that of the working class pupils, where the student cannot get the same support from their parents like that of an Indian or Chinese household because working-class households will most likely be made up of a single-parent family and that parent most likely works long hours and probably gets minimal pay. With minimal pay, the parents might not be able to afford an accommodation with adequate working space or even a peaceful household and so noise or a crowded house may affect how well a pupil can work in that type of environment (Abbott, 2005). Also if there isn’t a desk for the child to work on that would that they might be behind on schoolwork, not only due to inadequate workspace but because their parent cannot provide assistance when they’re stuck on school work....
