Circle the prepositions (of, in, to, about, for, onto, into). Put a box around the “is” verb forms. Ask, “Where’s the action?” and use an arrow to point to it. Change the “action” into a simple verb. Move the doer into the subject slot (Who’s kicking whom). Eliminate any unnecessary slow wind-ups. Eliminate any redundancies. Rewrite the sentence, putting the doer in the subject slot and the action in the verb slot.
