Pluperfect Subjunctive ●
Used in the same constructions as the pluperfect, but also when the subjunctive is required. e.g. I hope that Mary had spoken.

Use: 1. An action that had possibly taken place e.g. Was it possible that I had done such a thing? He acted as if we had met before. She doubted that you had read the assignment.
2. Hypothetical “If clause” followed by the pluperfect subjunctive e.g. I wouldn’t have asked you if I had known the answer If you hadn’t lied to me, I wouldn’t have gotten mad at you.
3. “I wish” and “I hope” clauses in the pluperfect e.g. I wish that I’d never met him I wish that you had been there...
