Description

1. What are the importance of poultry raising in the Philippines? Poultry raising is defined as raising different types of birds domestically or commercially for the purpose of meat, eggs and feather production. Poultry farming business has plenty of benefits in terms of health because as we all know, egg and meat provide us a good source of protein, essential vitamins and minerals. And commercial poultry farming is a very profitable business; therefore, many farmers prefer to invest in this and as it also one of the traditional ventures. In many provinces around the Philippines, many choose to start their own poultry business at their backyards due to the size of their lands. Not only that, but the business proves to be a profitable venture for anyone willing to invest in it with their capital. Chicken broiler and egg production are the most progressive animal enterprises in the Philippines today. Many people love to raise and show chickens and other poultry species at fairs and other poultry shows. Others just love to raise them for backyard pets and for fresh eggs every day. 2. Among different factors affecting profits in animal production, which one do you think has the greater impact in gaining or losing profit in animal production? The growth of poultry industry in the Philippines has been impressive but its problems include inefficient management and the prevalence of many destructive poultry diseases and parasites cannot be ignored. Specific diseases may depress or even preclude animal production from certain regions and this can be a major factor affecting livestock presence. Tropical climates are suited to persistence of endoparasites and ectoparasites that survive in or on particular animal species for at least part of their life-cycle. These parasites compete directly with their hosts for nutrients, thereby reducing growth or productivity. In addition, ectoparasites may be vectors for transmission of other parasitic, bacterial or viral diseases. One insect, the tsetse fly, transmits trypanosomes, producing a debilitating disease that can infect both livestock and people, (African sleeping sickness in humans). The presence of this arthropod renders large portions of Africa unsuitable for habitation by domesticated mammals, although some strains are developing resistance. 3. What are the things can you contribute to lessen the problem of the poultry production? Government policies may be a help or hindrance to animal production. Legislation can aid in developing a viable livestock industry by instigating land tenure policies that allow individual ownership and promote improvement, through subsidies that encourage production, with tariffs that discourage competition from imports, and through financial programs that make credit available to farmers. Other methods of support might be through assistance in development of marketing systems, promoting exports, providing regulatory programs to ensure product quality, farmer training, extension services, disease control and free or subsidized veterinary practices. Research and development to support animal agriculture could also be financed if countries are seriously attempting to

increase productivity. Negative effects on animal agriculture result when official policies encourage overgrazing, heavy reliance on plantation crops, exploit farmers to maintain low consumer prices and allow exportation of by-products that could be used in livestock rations. 4. Base on the latest situation of poultry subsector as of 1 st quarter 2020, what do you think the performance of poultry industry.
