1. Where do you find the epiglottis? The epiglottis is found at the rear of the pharynx, which is at the area at the back of the mouth between the base of the tongue and the esophagus/trachea. 2. What is the purpose of cutting through the peritoneal membrane? Without cutting through the peritoneal membrane, you wouldn’t be able to access the abdomens internal organs. 3. In the dissection, what do you have to do to see the stomach? The dissection states that you need to move the two lobes of the liver before you can see the stomach. 4. What is the length of the small intestine in the fetal pig? The small intestine in the fetal pig can be up to 350 centimeters. 5. What are rugae? Rugae are ridges in the stomach that allow for the stomach’s surface area to get bigger and thereby allow the stomach itself to accommodate more. 6. What is the soft palate? The soft palate has no bone inside of it, instead it is more of the mucus membrane which covers the hard palate. 7. Which plane separates the anterior from the posterior part of the pig? The transverse plane separates the anterior from the posterior of the pig. 8. Why are the lungs in the dissected pig inflated? The pigs lungs are inflated because that makes it easier to see the detail in the lungs, as well as it makes it easier to see the heart and the trachea. 9. Describe two differences between the female and male fetal pig. Male pigs do not have urogenital papilla like female pigs do. Male pigs urogenital tract is near the umbilical cord, whereas the female pigs urogenital tract is near the anal region....
