 Your Greeting to the interviewer(s) should be humble but confident and so as your handshaking (Firm & reflecting the empathy). Show genuine smile on your phase when you greet.

 Sit comfortably on the chair (Mind relaxed, body straight, hands not tightly folded).  Note that if you fear, any way you will not be getting the job; then why to fear? (Of course fear of interview should be there when you will be preparing for interviews else you will not care for it but by gaining required skills / practice you can conquer the fear.)

 Demonstrate confidence when you answer the questions.  If you are not aware about the answer don’t guess or give wrong answers.  When asked, please tell something about yourself, be concise-Don’t take more than a minute to explain about your name, qualification and family background. Talk about your extra-curricular achievements. Don’t just repeat what you have written in the CV. Use the power of your voice.

 Nowadays, the interviewers can ask any odd question to see how you keep patience. So be a good listener, keep patience, frame the answer and then answer. Be quick but thoughtful while answering.

GD Essentials Three approaches for GD 1. Keyword approach: Topic - Civil right moments a boon (gain) or bane (nuisance) to Indian democracy 

Identify the keywords (civil right movements and democracy)

Ask questions like who, what, where, how to the keywords E.g. Get the definition of democracy, what it exactly is… only after that we can say if the movements would benefit or not

You will get at least 4 to 5 points with this approach

2. Spelt approach (cultural, political, economic, legal, technology) 

Look at the topic and then think about it from all the above point of views… the ones which are applicable to the topic of course…..

3. VAP approach (Viewpoint of Affected Parties) 

Identify the parties involved in the topic

In our case they are: government, common man, media, and the movement initiators (eg: Anna Hazare and co)

Each party will have their own way of thinking about the topic and that helps us get lot of points.

Tips: 

Never point fingers or make unwanted gestures.

Body language is fine as long as it does not disturb the other group members.

Starting the G.D. doesn’t give extra points, so if topic is not totally clear, listen and then make your point. Of course, if you are confident, you can start with that confidence.

Don’t interrupt s omeone immediately after he starts to speak… always be polite even when you interrupt (E.g. I beg to differ)

MOST IMPORTANT: Never take a biased stance on any side of the topic. Remember this is Group Discussion and not a debate. You are free to argue both sides of the topic.

Listening is another important thing. Don’t just keep talking ab out your points but also listen to others and respect their views. Rather you should be an attentive listener. This will give you advantage in putting forward your points.

Always look at your group members and never at the judges. You are in the middle of a discussion so you should be totally involved in it.

Within your college groups practice at least 3 topics in a month using above guidelines. This practice will build your GD skills and will help you in GD even if you are given a different topic for GD by the company where you go for an interview.

NOTE: If you are not good in spoken English, start with English speaking rigorously from today. This is the KEY.

All the BEST Warm Regards - DR...
