Description

PROPERTIES OF A PARALLELOGRAM One special kind of polygons is called a parallelogram. It is a quadrilateral where both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.

There are five important properties of parallelograms to know:

1. Opposite sides are congruent (AB = DC). 2. Opposite angels are congruent (D = B). 3. Consecutive angles are supplementary (A + D = 180°). 4. The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other. 5. Each diagonal of a parallelogram separates it into two congruent triangles.

△ACD≅△ABC

ANSWERS:  AB = 4x 4(5) =20  DC = 6x-10 6(5)-10 =30-10 =20  AD = 3x-3 3(5)-3 = 15-3 =12  BC = x +7 (5) +7=12

ACTIVITY:

  

If AB= 5, then DC=? If AD=7, then BC=?

 

If angle B= 75°, then angle D=? Diagonal BD divides the parallelogram into two congruent triangles namely ________?

AC= 11 and BD= 12 bisect each other at point E, and then what is the measure of AE and DE?

EXAMPLE # 1 16 cm 9 cm

Figure 1. If AB = 9 cm, then what is CD? BC = 16 cm, then what is AD?  CD = 9 cm, AD = 16 cm. (Parallelogram property #1) 2. If angle A measures 75°, then what is the measure of angle C? Angle D measures 105°, and then what is the measure of angle B?  angle C = 75°, angle B = 105° (Parallelogram property #2) 3. AC and BD bisect each other at point E, then what two pairs of congruent line segments are formed?  AE = CE, BE = DE (Parallelogram property #4) 4. Diagonal AC namely_______?  ABC =
