INSTRUCTIONS: 1. For each chapter that teaches about medications, fill in the following table regarding the chosen meds. CLASS: antiParkinson’s GENERIC NAME: Rasagiline MOA: inactivates MOA by binding to type B brain site- increases amount of dopamine INDICATIONS: improvement in symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, allows increase in function CONTRAINDICATIONS: Tramadol, sympathomimietric amines, St. John’s Wort, INTERACTIONS with other Drugs/Substances: dairy foods- foods containing tyramine.

PATIENT RESPONSE / REACTIONS: DESIRED OUTCOME: Decrease in tremors, muscle rigidity, etc.
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS: Orthostatic hypotension Levodopa-carbidopa induced hypotension
S/S TOXICITY: Hypertensive crisis, Chest pain, tachycardia, bradycardia, photosensitivity nausea, vomiting
TOXICITY/OVERDOSE TX: Injection of short-acting benzodiazepines
NURSING ACTIONS:
ASSESS: Allergies, medications being taken, illnesses they may have.
TEACH: Pt. should avoid CNS depressants including alcohol, sleeping aides, etc.
EVALUATE: Assess for improvement in symptoms and signs of Parkinson’s- decrease in tremors
ADVERSE REACTIONS: CNS- depression, dizziness, drowsiness, hallucinations CV: orthostatic hypotension GI: anorexia, vomiting, gastroenteritis Resp: asthma CARE/IMPLEMENT: . May be used with levodopa/ carbidopa PO daily
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS/NOTES: do not confuse Azilect with Aricept (donezepil)...
