REACTION PAPER The movie Office Space portraits frustrated and unmotivated employees, unhealthy and distracting workplace and smarmy and condescending boss which is a bad attitude to see inside an organization. Peter Gibbons the protagonist in the story was a programmer in INITECH, Peter hates his job more than anything and at one point, he admits, "Each day of work is progressively worse than the day before, so every time you see me that is the worst day of my life." The organization shown in the movie (INITECH) was clearly a case of multicultural environment comprised several identities, nationalities and different religions. In the light of contractual relationship among employees as well as employees with their organization, I observed several types of contracts such as psychological contract (peter with himself which after the hypnotism has been changed significantly during the story), the implicit contract between Lumbergh as the boss and concerned department in INITECH. To cap it all off INITECH has hired a pair of "consultants" to downsize the company. Relaxed and friendly, Peter charms them as he describes everything wrong with the office, including his boss. Even as Peter now appears at work only when the mood strikes him, the experts decide he is a management material and give him a promotion, as they lay off his friends. Peter then convinces his friends to exact revenge on INITECH by uploading a computer virus to the accounting software that will take a fraction of a penny out of each transaction. Not everything works out as they planned. In the end they both got a job that satisfy and make them happy. I enjoy this movie a lot not only because it has a sort of funny scenes in the movie but the important is the lessons I learned after watching the movie. The question in the movie “What would you do if you have billion dollars” if I were to answer that I would do what I love to do and I will achieve all of my dreams, because more than the money, doing the thing that you love will bring better self-contentment and happiness that I think people at the mid 30”s will agree. I believed that an employee who’s having a secured job and a stress free workplace will definitely improve productivity and quality of their work. To sum it up this movie is great explanation of people job satisfaction....
