Personal argument/reflective writing on Artificial intelligence and its power over humanity in todays modern society....

Description

Personal Argument – Artificial intelligence is a threat to Humanity PHIL1037 Session 3 2021 Introduction (299 words): The theory in which I am arguing in the following assessment encompasses the debate of Artificial Intelligence (AI) becoming a threat to humanity through its evolution of power. The introduction of AI was intended to alleviate human responsibilities, encouraging a more effortless lifestyle. This furthered beyond expectations and will soon prevail the very intelligence that created it. As artificial intelligence evolves, humanity remains stable, creating a gap in power. The significance of human control lessons paralleling technological advances, demonstrating the threat to humanity. Alongside a decline in human activity, AI as a replacement can often result in higher rates of criminal and unauthorised activities due to the susceptibility of hacking. Considering this debate, the three comprising reasons supporting my argument are as follows: 1. AI was created in the 1950s to reduce the effort required by humans (Anyoha, 2017). However, the convenience of a calculator has since grown to the laziness and avoiding responsibility (Haenlein & Kaplan, 2019). This inadvertently dehumanises society, whereby we grow more dependent on technology and lose the skills adopted over hundreds of years. Additionally, many people will lose their jobs at the synthetic hand of AI as it’s evolution unfolds. Marr (2021) states that AI will change workplaces and individuals will need to adapt. 2. The escalation of intelligence in AI is more rapid than the growing of human intelligence (Marr, 2021). AI was not expected nor intended originally to grow to such a standard, however the human desire to out-do one another by furthering technology worsens this likelihood of AI escalating to threatening levels. 3. Artificial intelligence is more susceptible to misconduct and crime than tasks undergone by humans – accelerated hacking and bias by those who created the algorithms (Brundage et al. 2018). The visual argument will illustrate the main argument, reasons one.

Standardisation:

C. Artificial intelligence is a threat to humanity through its evolution of power in modern society. 1. Artificial Intelligence is dehumanising society as it evolves. 1.1. Humans are becoming more dependent on technology in daily life. 1.2. Many people are/will be replaced by AI in their workplace. [Sub-premises 1.1 and 1.2 are Linked] 2. Artificial intelligence is growing more rapidly than human intelligence 2.1. Artificial intelligence is exceeding the quality standard that was expected when invented. 2.2. Humans will continue to escalating level of AI by attempting to compete with one another. [Sub premises 2.1 and 2.2 are Convergent] 3. Artificial intelligence is susceptible to hacking 3.1. Biases can occur by those who create algorithms within AI. 3.2. The replacement of humans with artificial intelligence in many tasks such as banks allows for greater chance of crime and misconduct. [Sub-premises 3.1 and 3.2 are Linked] [Premises 1, 2 and 3 are Convergent]
