Activity: Reinforcement vs. Punishment Although reinforcement (which serves to increase or strengthen a behavioural response) is conceptually the opposite of punishment (which serves to decrease or weaken a behavioural response), students often have a hard time distinguishing negative reinforcement from punishment.
