Diagnostic Procedures

Increased WBC indicates inflamm bilirubin increased if bile duct obstructed. Amylase and lipase increased with pancreatic involvement.

Ultrasound visualizes gallstones and a dilated common bile duct Abdominal xray or CT scan- visualize calcified gallstones and an enlarged gallbladder Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

Laparoscopic-Instruct the client to ambulate frequently to minimize free air pain Teach the client to report indications of bile leak (pain, vomiting, abdominal distention) to the provider Instruct the client to resume activity gradually. Avoid heavy lifting for 4 to 6 weeks.Tell the client to begin with clear liquids and advance to solid foods as peristalsis returns.
