Thesis Statement for research paper...
Keegan Linwood Keegan Linwood Professor Paul Jessop HPED 1000-003 October 1, 2015 Research Paper Assignment Intro and Thesis Football is a notoriously violent sport, sometimes resulting in severe, life altering injuries for those who play it. These injuries can range from torn knee ligaments, to spinal cord injuries, to concussions. Although these severe injuries have occurred in football for years, the research study of former NFL players having CTE due to concussions, (Small et al., 2013, p. 138-144) encouraged the NFL to start taking measures to make the sport of football safer. Some of these measures include rule changes, overall injury awareness, and better helmets. However, not all of these changes have worked, as players are commonly using their helmets as weapons, making severe injuries more prominent in modern football. This essay will explore why the sport of football has continued to be dangerous for the player, even with supposed safety changes, what steps the sport can take to reduce the amount of severe injuries, and how to make football safe for people of all ages.
