Assessment Instructions

“[I]n the UK, while there are three largely distinct branches of government performing three largely distinct functions, the separation of powers is not rigorously adhered to.” (Public Law M Elliott & R Thomas. 3rd Edition [2017] p.64) In light of the above statement, critically consider how the separation of powers operates within the United Kingdom constitution. The word limit is 2000. You must clearly & truthfully state in writing your word count upon submission. Incorrectly stating your word count constitutes an assessment offence and may result in further action. The recommended number of words & the maximum word limit refers to & includes everything in the main body of the text (including headings, tables, citations, quotes, lists, etc.) and anything beyond this limit will be ignored by the marker. Analysis and evaluation will be assessed in relation to the ability to: o o o o o

Work out what is important in relation to the topic and what is unimportant. Acquire and apply knowledge about the topic to the discussion contained in the essay. Bring together relevant information and materials from a variety of sources. Explain that information and those materials and not contradict or repeat yourself. Reflect upon the subject area and the debates raised within in and offer conclusions based on evidence.

Use language appropriate to the task. Present information or argument clearly, concisely and comprehensively. Understand and use legal terminology correctly. Use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Adopt a logical and structured approach to: (a) the interpretation of and response to the question set, and (b) the development of a thesis leading to that response.

Identify relevant primary sources and eminent academic authority relevant to the issues discussed. Apply these sources and authorities appropriately to the issues discussed. Underpin reflection by reference to appropriate sources. Use an appropriate legal referencing system.

The word limit for this coursework is 2000 words  Word count includes everything in the main body of the text (including headings, tables, citations, quotes, lists, etc.).  The references, bibliography and footnotes (provided footnotes only include references) are NOT included in the word count.  There is no direct penalty for exceeding the word count but the marker WILL stop reading once the word limit has been reached and nothing further will be taken into account in the allocation of marks. You must submit your assignment before the stated deadline by electronic submission through MOODLE (http://moodle.villacollege.edu.mv/login/index.php). Notification that the electronic submission portal is open for your assignment is displayed (one week before the submission date) in the Course page at MOODLE. Please ensure you allow sufficient time to upload your script, noting that the system becomes busier and slower as the deadline approaches. Only your final upload will be counted. Ensure all your information is submitted at one attempt to avoid ‘overwriting’ your intended submission. Always check and retain your receipts. Submissions after 24 hours will not be accepted. Submissions of coursework by any other method (including a paper copy, on disc, by email or by fax) are NOT permissible for this module unless specifically agreed in advance of the submission date.
