My teacher complimented me on this assignment as it was one of the highest-graded papers in the class. We had to analyze the rhetoric of a piece of media of our choice. We were looking for things such as Ethos, Pathos, Logos and target audience. This can be used as an example for your own rhetorica...

Alexander Wickham Professor Moody English 1010 25 October 2017 Rhetorical Analysis of “Wrong Side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch I am evaluating “Wrong Side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch. I am evaluating this work because of its powerful meaning pertaining to veterans in the United States. The song song is the story of a soldier who has PTSD after being discharged from the military. The video depicts soldiers fighting in a third world city and coming back home years later after being discharged. They are all in different situations with their personal lives. The music video describes the problem with United States veterans coming home with problems and the country that they served is not giving the proper care that they deserve. I identified this by the emotion displayed by the actors in the video. They showed anger and sadness as they slept in alleys or wandered the streets. They are wondering why the country they served has turned its back on them. The video displays logos examples all through out the video. This is shown through the facts and statistics shown through out the video. These facts help give the person watching the video some more insight on what is happening to some veterans who come home. The video shows ethos at the end of the video when it displays credible resources describing the facts that were displayed. The singer is also in a known band that is also known to perform for veterans at military bases. This gives the listener the perception that the band is one that they should listen to about this subject. This video uses pathos as its main rhetorical appeal. There are scenes from the

video depicting the actors yelling and crying. These scenes give the audience the appearance that these veterans are in pain. This is because they feel like they have been betrayed. During these scenes the music switches to the more somber sounding verses to help strike the emotion in the audience. At the end of the video it says, “In the time you were watching this video a veteran somewhere took his own life.” While those words were displayed the music is silent to leave the audience with an eerie feeling so that they will remember what they just read. The target audience is the american people. This video was put in place to show these issues to the american people. The band wants more people to want to help push to solve these issues. Constraints to this may be people who are not american citizens who would rather their own country help its military instead of the United States’. In my evaluation of “Wrong Side of Heaven”, I conclude that the work is effective and does an excellent job at setting and defending its argument. It hits the audience’s emotions strongly and attempting to force them to feel sympathy for these veterans. The facts displayed also help give strong evidence to their argument by showing the audience what is going on....
