Allergy toward any chemical used in the experiment, especially salicylate based chemicals Risk of inhalation of acetic anhydride vapours (irritant) Risk of skin irritation by salicylic acid Risk of burns caused by the use of hot water bath

All staff and students must be informed before the start of the session that they are going to work with salicylate based chemicals. Allergic individuals must not attend the session. All chemicals must be handled with care under the fume cupboard. Personal protective equipment (lab coat, safety specs, and gloves) should be used at all times. Extra care should be taken when working with hot surfaces and water bath.
