Critical question: Are there more causes that the one given? If so, could the conclusion be different or the reasons be weaker? After reading pages 137-145, choose any behavior you are interested in understanding better. "Why do people care so much about money? what causes them to behave that way?" Some common behavior topic areas are: depression, college dropout, happiness, homelessness, obesity, divorce, success in marriage, suicide, and impulsiveness. You may choose any behavior for which you would like to better understand the possible causes. Brainstorm for a few minutes to come up with as many possible rival causes for the behavior. After you are done brain-storming, do an on-line web search for causes that others have proposed for that behavior you chose. Q1. Start by asking, "What do I think might be some possible causes for this behavior?" Write a short list of possible causes: My guess is that this behavior might occurs: 

For necessity. (intrinsic)

For power. (extrinsic)

For a better social status. (extrinsic)

Because of what people might say about poor people, that it is bad to be poor. (extrinsic)

The prejudice that richness equals smartness. (extrinsic)

Because they might believe money equals happiness. (intrinsic)

Q2. Then type in to your browser: "What are some common causes for why people care so much about money?" Write a short list of Causes from your on-line search: 

Money is a measure of productivity. (extrinsic)

Money does the world work. (extrinsic)

Stabilize personal life. (intrinsic)

Money makes life easier/enjoyable. (extrinsic)

Because money buys happiness. (intrinsic)

Q3. Compare your brainstorming list with your on-line search. Are the two lists similar? Were there Causes that you listed that were not in the on-line search? Some of them are similar, but with a different wording. My reason was that money equals happiness, what people say is that money buys happiness. Also, I said that money means a better social status, what I found is that money stabilize personal life which can be similar to my reason. The reasons I did not find online is that I believe money gives power, like we can see now in the new president of the United States. Also, my reason that people care about money because they need to, money is a needed to live. And, another of my reasons is that people believe money means intelligence, most of the time we believe that because someone has money it means they are smart. It doesn’t happen this way in all the cases, but I didn’t find this reason online. Q4. Look again at the two lists you generated of the possible cause of the particular behavior you chose. Which of the causes are intrinsic (based on DNA or personality) and which are

extrinsic (based on environment or external causes)? Go back to each list and add the word "intrinsic" or "extrinsic" to each of the possible causes for the behavior on each list. Which do you think is the most important cause(s)? I believe the most important cause why people care about money is because we believe it buys or brings happiness. This might be because in our capitalist societies we are used to see that the most money we have, the happier one is. People is losing the real sense one happiness which comes from family, friends and personal growth. Money is important, nobody denies that, but the real happiness comes from personal relationships....
