Lipa's connection with the National Hero Dr. José Rizal was close and intimate. One of his love interests was a Lipeña maiden by the name of Segunda Katigbak. Aside from that, he had many Lipeño friends, who were his ardent supporters for his campaigns for reforms, like Lauro Dimayuga, Gregorio Aguilera Solis, Dr. Baldomero Roxas, Brigido Morada, Mariano Katigbak, Bernardo Solis, Catalino Dimayuga, Dr. José Lozada, and the brothers Celestino and Simeon Luz.
