COURSE OBJECTIVES Prerequisite: COMM 225. This course deals with application of management science models to operations management problems in allocation of scarce human, physical, and financial resources. Among the topics covered are transportation, assignment and trans-shipment problems, integer linear programming, network models, multi-criteria decision problems, and waiting line models. The emphasis is on modelling issues and interpretation of solution through the use of optimization software packages. NOTE: Students who have received credit for DESC 361 may not take this course for credit.

At the end of this course students will be able to develop analytical & critical thinking, and problem solving skills in context of Supply Chain network context. Students will also understand the importance of Management Science approach to problem formulation and solution which is crucial in the modern business and global industrial world with increased use of computers.

Teaching method All the topics will be delivered in the form of some pre-recorded lectures on YUJA plus Zoom meetings. Each OM tool discussed will be supplemented by examples and industrial applications.

EVALUATION METHOD: MID-TERM:

50% MARKS ON MOODLE

FINAL EXAM: 50% MARKSON MOODLE FINAL MARKS WILL BE 60% OF BEST EXAM & 40% OF THE OTHER.

GRADING

A+ (90-100%), A (85-89%), A- (80-84%), B+(77-79%), B (73-76%), B- (70-72%), C+ (67-69%), C (63-66%), C- (60-62%), D+ (57-59%), D (53-56%), D- (50-52%), FNS (Below 50%)

You may not find everything, discussed in the class, in the textbook. I take few materials from other sources such as other books, web, research papers and case studies. It is student’s responsibility to take the notes, and regularly attend the class. I advise you to read the respected chapter before attending the class.

Mid-Term Examination date will be posted later. Lecture Material: Some Problems and Lecture Material will be regularly posted on Course Moodle. It is the responsibility of students to check these postings regularly.
