Description



Signs and scales ○ Way to chart or record measurements ○ sign=warning something is wrong (vital signs, pulse, edema, etc) ○ Scale is a method of measuring ‘where’ or ‘how much’ something is in relationship to the scope of possibilities using common increments ○ Use of scales in outcome-based programs involves measuring the change in scale based on tx ● Introduction ○ Specific problems that can be determined through specific assessments ■ Many not in the red book ■ Ch 16 Look at page 2 for LOGAN ● Clock Drawing Test ○ Used as part of a neurological test or as a screening tool for Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. ○ Number of scoring systems for this test alzheimer’s disease cooperative scoring system is based on a score of five points ■ 1 for circle ■ 1 for numbers in correct order ■ 1 for proper spacing ■ 1 for two hands of clock ■ 1 for correct time ○ Normal score is four to five points ○ Cognitive deficits, falls, more problems have drawing clock more likely you have deficits that can lead to dementia or alzheimer’s. ○ Implications ■ Provides huge amounts of information about general cognitive and adaptive functioning such as memory, information processing and vision, dementia. ■ Normal clock does not always mean normal ● Research variability on whether the CDT can differentiate b/w dementia ● SLUMS Exam ○ St louis university mental status ○ Is 11 items and measures aspects of cognition that include orientation, STM, calculations, naming of animals CDT, and geometric figures. ○ Scores are 00-30, ■ 27-30 is normal for someone with high school education ■ Neurocognitive disorder score 0-20 = dementia ○ Superior to the mini mental in identifying people with more mild cognitive problems ○ Free to use, short to administer ○ Not widely known as the mini mental, and not a ton of people have used it for testing and using it.
