Description

Looking at the six dimensions of wellness Model; Occupation, Physical, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual and emotional (Hettler 1976) which was developed by Dr. Bill Hettler. According to the six dimensions of wellness I would rate the 6 dimensions with regards to my wellness as follows; Occupation wellness: My occupation wellness would be rated 1 out of 10 Physical wellness: My physical wellness would be rated 8 out of 10 Social wellness: My social wellness would be rated 9 out of 10 Intellectual wellness- My intellectual wellness would be rated 9 out of 10 Spiritual wellness- My spiritual wellness would be rated 10 out of 10 Emotional wellness- My emotional wellness would be rated 8 out of 10 Analyzing my highest and lowest rated dimensions of wellness, I rated Occupational wellness as my least among the rest of the six dimensions is because Occupational dimensions being the recognition of personal satisfaction and enrichment in one’s life through work. It also entails the choice of profession, job satisfaction, career ambitions, and personal performances (Hettler,1976). With the explanation above and some personal factors such unemployment and lack of any achievement in my desired career as an IT engineer I feel my occupational dimension is below average. Also, I rated Spiritual Dimension This wellness involves training your mind a set of guiding principles, beliefs, or values that help in one’s life direction. It encompasses a high level of hope, commitment and faith to individual beliefs that provide a sense of meaning and purpose in our existence. In other words, it is the willingness to seek our meaning and purpose in human existence, to question everything, and appreciating the things which cannot be readily understood or explained (Hettler,1976). The reason why I rated this as the highest dimension is because of my in-depth knowledge about spiritual things help me to seek harmony between what lies within me and the forces outside which shapes me by allowing those who live around me the freedom to be who they are. Also, it helps me meditate regularly and see challenges life brings as an opportunity for growth. In This lesson has made me aware of the interconnections between each dimension and how they contribute to our personal lives and the society as well. Also, I have learned the importance of achieving optimal wellness in order to reduce risk of health illness by ensuring positive interactions. Reference Hettler, B. (1976).
