Social Problems Within Education Worksheet When it comes to the education system, there are several social problems. Looking at one side, teachers and support professionals are given long and stressful workdays without an appreciable salary. There are conflicts on what teachers are teaching to the students. Looking inside the actual schools the biggest social issues are having shootings, racial discrimination and disability discrimination. Back in the year of 2013, 85% of American public school had experience at least one incident of crime (Sullivan, 2016). According to research, a national survey was put in place for the 2016 - 2017 school year, over 70% of students acknowledged to being bullied or bullying others (Andrades, M., & Ashraf, H., Shamsi, N., 2019). Racial discrimination is also shown within the school systems where students are being separated from other students due to the color of their skin. Lastly, we go to disability discrimination. It is seen when teachers are teaching and trying to group students together on their performance in class as well as test scores (Sullivan, 2016). With that being said, these issues play a big part in students’ confidence of their ability to learn. A social problem within the school systems is that there is human trafficking taken places because children are running away from school issues. School issues like bullying can cause a child to want to escape from the violence, so they run away. Victims of bullying within the school systems may go through on a daily basis teasing, fighting and every cyberbullying which will cause a child severe mental and physical stress. Victims of human trafficking are most likely

tricked into a fairytale lie, in hopes of living the dream, in other words living their best life. This makes students who are in troubled situation at school more vulnerable to traffickers either in their area or online. A possible solution to problems that are within the education system would be to group students based on their learning styles, keeping in mind that other students can have a huge impact on another student education. There are seven types of learning styles visual (spatial), auditory (Musical), verbal (linguistic) physical (kinesthetic), logical (mathematical), social (Interpersonal) and solitary (Intrapersonal) (Inspire Education, 2013). this method of teaching will help decrease discrimination in the school systems because student would be taught in groups not by their race, sex or disability, but based on how they best learn. In the past, students were racially segregated in class and even had to attend different schools. When it came to African Americans and minorities, they were categorized as being undereducated, dumb and retarded all based on the color of their skin. The stereotypes allowed Caucasian students to have advantages over minorities by receiving a betted education, better job opportunities, better benefit its, better everything. Here is a food for thought, if schools were to teach according to the student’s ability to learn, there will be no such thing as racial segregation in the school systems. With this idea, it will help teachers teach better, not by their opinion, but by the policy.
