Creating and Recording Effects 

Soundsnap - create sounds and upload to soundsnap o As people download your sounds, you get a certain percentage  Soundideas and premium beats Effects Libraries:  Today sound designers have a huge resource of pre-recorded sound effects (BBC The Generals)  These libraries are extremely expensive, but the purchaser buys the right to use the effects without further payment to the originator, and they ow form the basis of most sound designers effects source  Single effects are also available over the internet on payment of a fee. More and more online effects libraries are popping up, some with better quality than others  Designers often start with a particular sound from a library and then mix it with others, it is rare than an effect is used without some form of modification  If you use these same effects and sounds over and over, your designs will become overly familiar to directors and audiences  Good effects libraries ill consist of commercial effects and a stock of effects that you have made or recorded yourself Location Recording:  In many cases there is no substitute for getting out and recording the natural effects yourself  A quality digital recorder, mics with quality windshields, a pair of headphones, endless charm, and meticulous planning will get you a long way in location recording  Never take permission for granted, in doing so you are less likely to alienate the person on whose property you are recording, and much more likely to render them friendly for future sessions  One of the biggest problems besides weather with recording in an exterior location is that members of the public always interrupt at critical moments in recording. They ask you questions, yell obscenities, or make silly noises into the microphone  Recording outdoors also poses another problem besides weather and the public: it is increasingly harder to find locations where traffic and aircraft noise are not a constant problem...
