Description

a) Frequency table and a graphical representation (your choice) for variable (1) Do you approve of same sex marriage?

b) Frequency table and a graphical representation (your choice) for variable (2) Would you date someone of a different race?

c) Construct a two-way contingency table for the last two variables: (1) Do you approve of same sex marriage? and (2) Would you date someone of a different race?

d) We want to see if there is a relationship between these two variables and we will use Chi-square test. (i) State and check the assumptions

Claim: There is no relationship between approval of same sex marriage and choice of dating someone of a different race. Assumptions 1) Counted Data Condition: The data is counts for the categories of the two categorical variables. 2) Independence Assumption: The counts in the cells are independent of each other. One answer to the first question has no effect on the other. 3) Randomization Condition: The sample is a random sample. 4) Expected Cell Frequency Count: The expected value of the number of sample observations in each cell is at least 5.

(ii) Do you see Chi –Square Test – Pearson result? Report Df = (number of columns -1)*(number of rows -1) and p-value. What is your conclusion?

Df is 1, and p-value is 0.0238. Since p-value is smaller than 0.05, I can reject the null hypothesis, which is that there is no relationship between approval of same sex marriage and choice of dating someone of a different race. Therefore, my conclusion is that there is a relationship between approval of same sex marriage and choice of dating someone of a different race.

(iii) Create a clustered bar chart and describe in one sentence your findings.

Those who approve same sex marriage tend to support dating with different race more than people who do not approve same sex marriage do....
