Q1.
Figure Q1 shows a frame members AB and BC attached to a cable CD and subjected to distributed load of 5 kN/m. The structure is fixed at A and D and roller at B. By using the flexibility method and assuming internal (axial) force in cable CD and reaction at B as redundant, a)
find internal forces for members AB, BC and axial force for cable CD,
b)
draw the bending moment diagram and show important values on the diagram.
Take E = 2 × 108 kN/m2 , A = 0.012 m2 and I = 50 × 10-6 m4 for members AB and BC. Take E = 1.7 × 108 kN/m2 and A = 3 × 10-4 m2 for cable CD.

Figure Q2 shows a plane truss subjected to point loads of 90 kN and 70 kN. The truss is pin supported at nodes 1 and 4, and roller supported at node 3. All members have constant AE value. A downward settlement of 3000 AE occurred at pin support at node 4. By using the stiffness method, determine the unknown nodal displacements, axial force in member 2 and reaction forces at node 4.
