Absolute Space...
Zuñiga 1 Evelyn Zuñiga Professor Stump Modern Philosophy 20 February 2019 Absolute Space According to Newton absolute space is mathematical and common and of itself own nature because of its absolute time, and its duration with absolute motion. Newton asserts that one absolute space has an absolute motion, absolute rest of immovable space or spaces, and absolute time. He speaks of absolute as a natural and essential description to motion, time and places. Therefore, most places on earth are absolute. Only absolute motion and absolute rest can affect this absolute place and be the cause of an absolute time. Hence these absolute things are essential to themselves according to Newton. Throughout this reading, Leibniz compares absolute and relative motions, places, time and even spaces between each other, and their causes and effects. He especially emphasizes these differences when mentioning motion and rests working with absolute and relative spaces and places. Newton uses the analogy of earth and things that involve earth: for example, the ship analogy between motion and rest during movable or immovable earth. Leibniz counter asserts this with astrology and planets, and how time is not in correspondence to the change with of the rest of the absolute because of all the differences between things absolute and essential against the relative. He includes other analogies like
