Introduction This is a report critically analysing the supply chain and e-business technologies of Linfox and InterFreight Logistics organisations in Australia. Supply chain management is the flow of goods or services, the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to the final users from the suppliers. E-business technology is how these organisations conduct their business online and keep in touch with their customers.

Background Linfox and InterFreight Logistics are both companies that originated in Australia.

Interfreight Logistics InterFreight Logistics is a New South Wales made and operated company which has grown from an inception in 1981 to a multi-million business today. The company operates internationally primarily as a customs broker and as a transport operator with highly regarded and respected with a strong network of overseas agents.

Linfox Logistics Linfox Logistics started as one man one truck business in Australia in 1956. Its headquarters is based in Melbourne, Victoria. Linfox provides the world’s best supply chain solutions to Asia Pacific’s most successful companies. It was once a public company but in 1989 returned to be a private company after being listed on the Australian Stock Exchange for 2 years.

Company Analysis Linfox Logistics Company analysis Linfox culture of continuous improvement ensures that customers receive the competitive edge they need to be successful. Its supply chain model is a highly secured network that promotes the efficient movement of goods while maintaining a robust system that prevents risks and hazards. It is a highly reputable and reliable service provider that is entrusted with $53 billion worth of stock, often in high security environments to deliver the needs of Government, defence, alcohol, healthcare and tobacco industries committed to the engagement and empowerment of all staff to ensure ongoing integrity of all operations.

InterFreight Logistics Company Analysis InterFreight’s supply chain proudly operates with a simple philosophy of providing an alternative to other large transport operations that operate rigid systems and an inflexible attitude to individual business requirements. The organisation takes pride in looking after their clients not as a number, but as an individual long-term client.

Comparison of Linfox and InterFreight supply chains and logistics Linfox and InterFreight both operate mostly as logistic services to their customers. They both transport small parcels to very large goods. Linfox operates mostly in the Asia pacific region although its expanding world-wide whilst InterFreight logistics operates almost every continent. Both companies prioritise and puts their customers first. InterFreight has customs agents and offers services that clear cargo and clears parcels before delivering them safely door to door whilst Linfox keeps track of its fleet for efficient and timely delivery. Warehouses are managed well; both have strategically placed their selves close to warehouses and the waterfront. Heavy machinery is used to quickly load trucks and transport deliveries. 4

E-Business E-business is the strategic use of the internet or online platforms to do interact with consumers, business, suppliers, and any other parties interested in doing business. Linfox and InterFreight Logistics both have online websites. They use social media platforms to communicate with their customers, suppliers, and related parties. Their websites provide all information on their services and the companies offer a free quotation upon request. New advanced technology is used to improve safety of trucks and goods. Linfox has an application that helps customers track their goods through a link provided by the company. Communication is kept open and customers advised of any changes or obstacles. InterFreight also communicates online with their customers and involve them till they receive their parcel.

Benefits and challenges of Linfox supply chain and e-business technologies Linfox provides 24x 7 operational support. All its vehicles are continually monitored for security and fleet performance. Linfox enhances visibility and efficiency through the world class IT applications and infrastructure. However, keeping up to date with trends comes at an expensive price. They have an efficient Transport Management System and Warehouse Management System which enable complete operation of the warehouse site. Linfox has system which help drivers find the safest and convenient route to take. This leads to customer satisfaction as they receive their goods on time. Despite the supply chain being perfect, Linfox vehicles are affected by traffic, natural disorders which might delay their deliveries. The trucks are drove by human who can get sick and lead to delay of deliveries. Roadblocks and traffic work also delay the arrival of deliveries. These are challenges which Linfox has a little or no control over.

Benefits and challenges of Interfreight supply chain and e-business technologies InterFreight logistics are specialists in sea freight, air freight, road haulage, documentation and customs and experienced in handling dangerous goods, sea/air transportation, cross trade transport and over-sized cargo. They handle many aspects of sending and receiving parcels and have an ability to assist with formalities of gateway customs. Transporting the goods by 5

water is low cost, by road is efficient and quick whilst railroad carries more and allows oversized cargo transportation. The organisation has an electronic order tracking app to help customers track their goods. They face challenges from natural disasters in trying to deliver their shipment.

Supply chain strategy Linfox and InterFreight logistics can develop a demand-driven planning and operating model based on real time demand. The right planning tools help forecast demand and prevents losses made by trucks travelling half empty. This also helps in timely delivery despite every delivery being affected by pandemic such as Corona Virus. Linfox and InterFreight can adjust pricing and promotions strategies to shape demand, move product quickly and drive revenue growth, or further expand margins for a high-demand product. This strategy, agile demand-driven supply chain requires end-to-end visibility across the business from buyers and the market to supply. Both companies can use cloud technology to make it a success.
