Introduction 1. Introduction 2. Significance: important because it helps teach self soothing strategies to children which will help them through hard times at school, and also lay a foundation to help them through life stressors as well 3. Review of the literature 4. Research question: Has yoga taught to children been able to help them? If so, how, if not, why not? Hypothesis: Yoga taught to children will be able to help children learn self soothing strategies in a fun way. Exploratory statement: Is teaching yoga to students worth the cost of paying a yoga teacher, and being taught in school as opposed to a typical academic class or gym class?

II. Methods 1. Sample: sample will be students who participate in the research study over six months to a year. a questionnaire will be given to them either verbally or written depending on their age, asking what coping strategies they use independently, or are told to use, and how these strategies work for them. Students will be given a permission slip for their parents to sign informing them that this study will be taking place in the school at no additional charge to them, but informing them of what it will entail, with the option of opting out. 2. Measures: variables are the ages and gender of the children? As well as where the classes take place and how long and how often the yoga class(es) take place? 3. The research design proposed for this study is qualitative as it will look at how the children are able to manage their emotions and utilize self soothing strategies 4. Data collection will be in the school monthly with the participating students asking them what they learned, if they are enjoying the classes, using their gender and age to keep track of their answers as well as giving them a number for personal use that will not be published or used elsewhere to keep track that each student is being tracked individually to see progress made by each student separately 5. Data will be analyzed by using a line graph for each of the questions on the questionnaire; are they able to independently use the strategies they’ve learned in class, do they find the strategies useful in their daily lives, do they enjoy the classes overall 6. Benefits of the study broken down into the 3 levels: on an individual level it

will look at whether or not the students are able to utilize what they’ve learned in yoga as coping strategies, agency/ community would be in regards to their school community and how they are able to utilize these coping strategies during their school day, as well as if the teachers see an improvement in the children taking place in the yoga classes, lastly if there are beneficial outcomes and improvements seen in school, have the parents seen it at home as these would be beneficial to the social work and human services professions overall as it could cause these children to not need in home services and support, or acting out causing a need for additional services/ professionals to get involved 7. Risks that could take place within the study are possible, yet unlikely, injuries as the study is based on the physicality of yoga, but this would be stated in the outlined consent form sent home to parents 8. The only culture or religious affiliation I can think of that might be “at risk” per say would be Jehovah’s witnesses as some of yoga is from Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. I. Limitations II.
