RESEARCH What is Afro-Asian Literature? o A term for novels or writing such as poems wwritten by peoplle from mixed African-Arab ethnicity, or African- Asian ethnicity. In mmodern times, as a part of world literature is a separate segment of writing(in English) of experiencesin African and Asia to further cultural understanding and world peace. o It mirrors not only the custom and the tradition of Aafrican and Asian countries but also their philosophy of life which on the whole are deeply and predominantly compemplative and hauntinngly sweet. o Literary works were handed by mouth from generation to generation to entertain, educate and remind the people about their past, heroic deeds of their people, ancestry and culture. o Afro-Asian literature is a sign of new and modern times. It also teaches people and allow them to learn about different experiences and culture from all over the world. NORMS AND CULTURE: AFRICA AFRICA has 300 distinct ethnic groups, 2000 language. home to the most genetically diverse people on earth. So diverse that two Africans are most genetically different from each other. Africa is the world’s second largest continent and second most populous continent. There are generations, which do efine Africa, but none of those are exclusive.  Sense of community A popular african proverb comes to mind here to express the african sense of community. “ go the way that many people go; if you go alone, you will have reason to lament.  Sense of good Human Relation The art of dialouge and conversation is a cherished value in African human. Pepople freely discuss their problems and look for suggestions and solutions together.  Sense of Hospitality The Asfrican sense of hospitality is one of the African values that is still quite alive.



Africans have their own symbolic ways of expressing welcome. These are in forms of presentation of Kola nuts, traditional gin, coconuts etc. in various communities.

NORMS AND CULTURE: ASIA Asian Values are very much inter-related. They all support the view of the individual as being a part of a much larger group or family.  Family and education Asian parents are more likely to spend their time for their children even at the expense of their personal time, and ambitions of the parents themselves and when it comes to education, they drive their children harder to perform well academically.  Reserve conformity and Harmony Since the well being of the larger group is most important in Asian culture, great importance is placed on maintaining harmony.  Benevolence and Obligation Asian societies tend to be very hierarchical, in contrast to African culture where in some cases it is not unusual to consider teachers and students, or even parent and child are equal.

Characteristics of Afro-Asian Literature African literature is a diverse as the continent itself, but several characteristics an theme prevail throughout much of the written works emerging from Africa. There is often great emphasis on the history, culture and customs of a group of people when telling their stories. Afro-Asian literature is a sign of new and modern times. It also teaches people and allow them to learn about the different experiences and cultures from all over the world.
