Description

Taskstream 1: Psychology for Educators B1: Case 376 Identifying and Understanding Figurative Language The teacher in this video observed students while they communicated and worked with each other. The teacher’s lesson plan allowed the students to work together on topics that they needed to work on in the past. While observing the teacher noticed some students were more competent in the subject and the students who were not competent. She also used the interaction as a way to motivate them to work together to achieve a common goal. The students in the case were showing more confidence in themselves and were no longer scared to speak out and try to answer questions they may not be sure of. B1-A: This was a good technique for the teacher to use because not only did it teach the lesson plan but it also taught the three students how to work in a team. It helped them learn how to better interact with each other and work together to reach a common goal. Also, the students who were more proficient in the lesson were helping students with their answers when the student was not too sure. This showed the true knowledge that was gained through working together. Due to the difference in personalities, at first, they were not immediately working as a team. Some students were eager to answer all the questions leaving some less eager students in the dark. As time passed the students became more comfortable and started working to help each other. This technique also helped with social skills among the students. B1-B: To gain full participation I would turn this into a game. I would give each student the same sentences and have them run to markers on the floor that says, “simile”, “personification”, “metaphor”, and “hyperbole”. I would have the students line up look at their cards with sentences on them and have them walk one by one to which word they believe described the sentence. This would allow each student a chance to give the first answer they believed would be right and also a way for them to explain why they chose the word they were at. This would allow each student to learn and speak all while having fun. B2: Case #14 Using Technology in Creative Writing The teacher in this video used a combination of technology and writing to create a fun and exciting way to creative write. Using this technique not only taught the students writing skills but also enhanced there computer skills. In this video we saw the students engaging in cooperative learning through the use of their imaginations and excitement of doing a new activity. The activity also allowed for teamwork where the students who were good at using powerpoint or at writing were helping the students that were not. The teacher also promoted the need for teamwork by splitting the students up in to groups based on their computer and writing skills to interact and teach the students who are struggling....
