Introduction In an age of constant change Broadcast Radio has seemed a continual medium of communication. Radio stations cater for the public in a variety of ways. One of the primary ways it caters for people is that it connects people from a far and the near. Whether it is a local radio station or a big commercial station such as BBC Radio 1 or Capital FM, people still listen to radio stations in their thousands. Producing a radio show involves a lot of commitment and pre-production processes such as licenses, obeying guidelines set from Ofcom and in house bosses like producers and station managers. Target audience analysis to enables that you are broadcasting the correct show for your demographic and creating jingles and trails for shows. The production stage is the actual broadcasting of the show. Although this seems like the easiest part of the process because it is fun and enjoyable to connect with the audience; it also includes a lot of hard work. You must ensure the listener gets what they need/ want from the programme they are listening to. The post- production contains the editing stages. Adobe Audition is used in industry so I shall be using the same to create a 5-minute podcast collaborating each of my 4 shows that will be broadcast live throughout 2017. I will also evaluate how the shows progress from our first to last and whether it is a good fit with Demon FM the station it will be played out on. Demon FM Demon FM is a student based radio station that has been running for 21 years. They use the frequency 107.5FM and broadcast from Leicester (De Montfort University) and transmit all across the world for anyone to listen via the Tunein App and website. This station broadcasts every day; 24/7, 365 days a year. Demon FM is classed as a community radio station because its demographic first and foremost is centered around students from De Montfort University and then lecturers and staff there too and so forth. This is a talk and music based station including shows about DSU (De Montfort Student Union) elections, events happening around campus, latest music trends and other fascinating concepts to cultivate and cater for its expanding audience.

Pre-production There are many stages that must be looked in to and completed before a show is produced to go on air. They are as follows; OFCOM Ofcom is the regulatory body that monitors all media outlets. Ofcom states that all broadcasted content must be stored for 42 days in case a complaint arises. Ofcom expects all recordings to be available upon request so that they can be investigated if needed. Audio that warrants investigating includes but is not subject to is as follows: offensive language, such as swearing, the use of illegal drugs, the abuse of drugs, smoking, solvent abuse, the misuse of alcohol and gambling when being featured in a children’s programme or before The Watershed. Violence and dangerous behaviour, sexual material, nudity, demonstrations of exorcisms, occult practices and the paranormal. None of the above should be broadcasted unless it is justified for content purposes. (INSERT TABLE OF ALL OFCOM LICENSE INFORMATION) Defamation: Libel and Slander

Contempt of Court Watershed What is the watershed?

RAJAR RAJAR stands for; Radio Joint Audience Research. Demographic Research Considering the benefits of completing audience research like RAJAR. I am going to complete some research of my own to find out what age range of people listen to Demon FM, what music they like to listen to and what content and information they would also like to hear. (INSERT INTERMISSION RESEARCH/ REMIT Programming Type There are various types of radio programming. The demographic of the show determines what sort of content and format the show is in. There is Music based programming, speech-based, sport, Trails/Promo’s Trails and promos are a great way to advertise stations and specific programmes that are coming up shortly. Speech Packages A speech package is a feature on a radio show that tells a story but also includes a variety of audio and sound to tell that story and pass on information. Vox pops A Vox pops is a great way to connect with the public because it enables to presenters to reach out to the audience and find out about their opinions on certain subject matters without going into a full interview. The recordings are made using purpose-designed hard-disc recorders, computers running widely available logging software, or, in older installations, on special DAT tape machines or even VHS long-play video recorders giving 8 hours per tape. Failure to supply a recording when requested by Ofcom can lead to a substantial fine and a serious black mark against the licence holder. As a result, depending on the security of the system used, some stations limit access to the recordings to management only. This avoids a daily queue of people wanting to extract audio for a podcast, make a dub of a spectacular “blooper” or take air-checks of their greatest moments with a view to future employment. In such cases staff must be aware of the need to make separate recordings for such purposes, which as logging quality is often compromised in order to compress the stored files is not a bad idea anyway.
