Description

Tesla Motors Tesla motors is an automaker that is making vehicles run on sustainable energy. Tesla is the brand name that follows all their electric vehicles they manufacture. In 2016 Tesla had a net revenue of $7 Billion (TSLA, 2017). Although Tesla has a great vision for the future of cars, they haven’t had much profit lately. Analysts predict Tesla to lose money in quarter’s 1 & 2 of 2018, while then finally returning profits in quarter 3 (Katie, 2017). Tesla’s manufacturing in Fremont, California, which is 32 miles from the headquarters in Palo Alto, California (Katie, 2017). The plant in Fremont is estimated to handle around 500,000 vehicles a year amongst its 5.3 million square feet of space (Katie, 2017). In Tesla’s third quarter they produced 260 of its Model 3 sedans, resulting in missing the planned, producing of 1,500 (Danielle, 2017). The integration of SolarCity will be able to reduce customer acquisition costs (Green, 2017). With the success of SolarCity, it’ll be able to provide Tesla vehicles with solar roofs on the vehicles to provide a convenience of charging off solar power (Ronan, 2017). With Tesla comes up with this innovation, it’ll make it more convenient to the consumer to be able to charge their vehicles without an electric bill. Tesla gives a different take on vehicles and the experience behind driving them. One of the unique features of the Model 3 Sedan is the Ludacris mode, it has (Ronan, 2017). This model featured on the vehicle has secured it amongst other vehicles as one of the fastest cars on the planet (Ronan, 2017). Tesla plans to work on the Model S idea for their next car to help bring tesla back (Mike, 2017). Leading up to Model S, Tesla has already begun self-driving cars. With self-driving cars this will be able to help aid drivers in assisting to reduce the likelihood of accidents. Having self-driving cars will allow potentially delivery services to transport themselves to the location of the consumer. Elon Musk was born in South Africa in 1971, where he spent most his childhood in South Africa (Elon, 2017). When Elon Musk was 12 years old, he made his first software sale, this being a game called Blastar (Elon, 2017). When Elon Musk reached age 17 he moved to Canada to attend Queen’s University to avoid service in the South African Military (Elon, 2017). Elon Musk is determined to solve a problem when faced with it, he doesn’t let the thought of a problem go unanswered. This type of mindset will drive him to overcome any obstacles that his company faces through its developments. Elon Musk has always been true to his engineer and explorer aspect of entrepreneurship. SpaceX was founded in 2002, with Elon Musk intentions of bundling spacecrafts for commercial space travel (Elon, 2017). Later heading into 2008, SpaceX was well established with being NASA awarded to handle cargo transport (Elon, 2017). Elon Musk vision to see Tesla be one of the most valuable U.S. car maker, while also developing new technology in other forms of travels (Elon, 2017). These advancements in his companies shows his passion for the improvements of all forms of travels both on land and in the air.

If Tesla hired me as their CMO, marketing mix I would include would be marketing mixes of including other technological advances for other devices other than limited to cars. Phones are an everyday use in people’s lives, as are cars, a solar power charging case. This case would be like similar cases that have screen covers to protect the phone’s screen from the attraction of the sun. With this type of case, instead of just simply covering the screen, what covers the screen can convert solar energy. I would focus the demographic of major cellphone users associated with cell phone companies. This product would potentially have to be relatively cheap, as it would need to be relatively the same price as other popular charging cases to compete. Reaching out to cell phone companies for partnerships to associate the cases could be the key factor. With consumers willing to spend close to a thousand on newer phones, spending a fraction on top of that won’t concern the consumer. The challenges will surely be to market the importance to make the consumer feel they need it, which will take in-depth statistics on consumer preferences. Personally, I’ve never sat in a tesla or seen one in person. I think the advancement of these cars are interesting in the terms of how far they can go with them, and the features they can provide. Purchasing this product would be hands down a yes for me, I like the idea of the solar panel roofing, and self driving features. I would enjoy being involved in this companies, accounting, or even branching out to even market these products. The ideas of these products being sold can emphasize so much for what it has to offer.
