Thanksgiving

It’s always the fourth Thursday in November. It’s an official tradition in America since 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclamated an official day of thanksgiving, during the civil war. It’s a huge holiday in America, more important than Christmas. The first celebration of Thanksgiving goes back to the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620, as soon they arrived in America. It’s a way to thanks god to have saved them. It’s a feast that lasts three days, organized both for pilgrims and Native Americans. On the menu, at the first thanksgiving dinner, were things the Pilgrims found around them, like the wild Turkey, corns and pumpkins pies, sweet potatoes, cranberries. It’s an occasion for lots of families to meet. More recently, a new tradition appeared: since 1947, the national Turkey federation presents three Turkeys : two are ready to cook, dressed, ready-to-cook, and one alive Turkey. Another tradition started with Ronald Reagan, who decided to pardon the Turkey. Middle class and upper class families are also in the habit of offering Turkeys to homeless people, churches, or organization like the Red Cross, and even to American soldiers all around the world. But Thanksgiving has turned into a commercial holiday. Thanksgiving is also considered as the beginning of Christmas holidays : it is Black Friday : - appeared at the end of the 60s, when streets were so busy by people and became black of people in Philadelphia - it is also believed that Black Friday is the day were Americans detailers take in a huge amount of money, and their bank balance is in the black, because profits were indicated in black and losses in Red - Its also for the population who gets paid on the fourth Friday of the month - ‘ The early bird catches the worms Early to bed Early to rise Make a man wealthy Wealthy and wise No birds No bees No flowers No trees No wonder November $...
