Elements of a good graph workshop task...
The elements of a good graph: 1. Axes are darker than the rest of the lines 2. Both axes are labelled with the variable name followed by the units in brackets (don’t label them x or y). 3. The independent variable is plotted on the horizontal (x) axis. 4. The dependent variable is plotted on the vertical (y) axis. 5. The graph is properly scaled. The scale for each axis of the graph should always begin at zero. 6. The axes are properly scaled so that the graph fits the space, the grids are consistently scaled, and all of the data fits on the graph. 7. You don’t have to label each scale tick with its value. Label enough values on the axis to make it clear what scale you are using on the axis. 8. A line of best fit can be included to show the trend of the data (it can be straight if the trend is linear or curved). 9. Appropriate use of colour (colour blind friendly, not too much colour) 10. A legend, if necessary, to explain different treatments 11. The graph has a short title (the convention is to refer to the dependent variable vs. independent variable). 12. The graph should be as large as possible to fit the page....
