1.0 Introduction The world was shaken by the sudden news of the pandemic caused by COVID-19. It has greatly affected various things in everybody’s normal life, which includes going to the workplace and school. Due to the rising cases of people testing positive of COVID-19 in the Philippines, the opening of classes are moved from August 24, 2020 to October 5 of the same year by the Department of Education. Schools prohibited conducting face-to-face classes to ensure the safety of every student nationwide.

As a result, faculties have been forced to change ordinary and traditional way of learning and shifted to online and modular learning. It is the only way to continue imparting knowledge to every student while following the health protocols declared by the government amidst the said pandemic. Online classes include the use of digital services to create a digital classroom. While modular learning, on the other hand, is a form of distance learning which uses Self-Learning Modules. These changes in the mode of learning is a way to protect every student from the danger of COVID-19. These modes of learning have various advantages and disadvantages that made the students' learning easier or harder for some. In a span of months since the opening of classes, some might find learning easier because of some reasons like they no longer need to go to school. They just need to stay inside their houses while studying. However, some find it difficult to learn because of several reasons like how they are used to the traditional way of learning that they find these new modes difficult. These difficulties might affect their academic performances especially for students that belong to the "cream of the crop".

This study aims to investigate the effects and impacts of the sudden change from traditional mode of learning to what modes we are using right now, the online and modular learning. We, the researchers, tried to know if the academic performance of Senior High School students in Our Lady of Fatima University are affected by the change of the learning modality. This study also investigates the difficulties and problems they encountered while they are in their online class and while answering their modules. We also looked into what they think are the advantages of these modalities and its difference from the traditional face-to-face classes.

The purpose of this study is to address the concerns and difficulties that the Senior High School students are facing in this new normal learning that affects their academic performance. And at the same time, help them think of strategies that can aid and help them in their studies. The main objective of this research is to look into the effects of the shifting from traditional face-to-face classes to online and modular learning among Grade 11 and Grade 12 students in Our Lady of Fatima University.

This objective will help the researchers to know what are the advantages and disadvantages of online and modular learning in the students academic performance. The researchers will also know what are the insights of the Senior High School students of the Our Lady of Fatima University in this new normal learning of academic school year 2020-2021. This study also aspires to establish conclusions and useful recommendations to aid students in their studies in the new normal set-up.

2.0 Literature Review

According to Mandasri (2020), the education was being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic where the traditional face to face class suddenly changed into online class. Indonesia is one of the countries that implemented this. The study was conducted in Indonesia as well as the respondents were the citizens there with 40 Indonesians students. This study was conducted to know the impact of online learning in the students' education. The researcher of this used descriptive qualitative to gather data information that is needed to have the result. By the questionnaire that the researchers provided, the result was positive which means that the online learning has a good impact on the students which motivates that cause their achievement. Students who participated in the study also stated that this kind of learning is suitable for the time of pandemic, but of course there are still a few problems in this kind of situation which is financial issues and internet connection that was experienced by the students

In the study conducted by Webb, et.al, (2021) entitled "Moving learning online and the COVID19 pandemic: a university response" have a purpose to investigate the current issues that higher education encountered regarding the suddenly shifted their teaching style into online. To successfully know the result of this study the researchers used qualitative design and the method they used is to interview where the respondents are staff of the university and the students. The finding showed when the Covid-19 came where all are being affected specifically the education and to solve it, higher education immediately implemented having online learning which is cause to increased the usage of digital technology. Digital intervention has become effective to use in pandemic. However, it also has disadvantages to the people who have not enough skill or knowledge in using digital technology or the olde ages people who are not modernized. The implementers have need to put more effort and specifically higher education to face the challenges and consequences of what they implemented such as digital learning.

Tsai, et. al, (2021) used experimental using artificial intelligence of things (AIOT) and 4D (discover, define, develop, deliver) to distinguish the students' self-efficacy and learning anxiety. The respondents that served as their participants were the 36 Shs Students in total. The researcher provides a questionnaire and qualitative interview in order to get the results also online teaching videos and textbooks to enhance their learning participation; having experiments

which students are sharing their assignments showed that the learning anxiety of students decreased because of communication and cooperation to each other . The technology acceptance model (TAM ) was used to better know the effectiveness and satisfaction. The result showed that self-efficacy has a positive impact on perceived usefulness which one of the elements of TAM concept which means the students dedication to their learning has something to do with perceived usefulness which to enhance their academic performance. Furthermore, the perceived ease of use doesn't have a positive impact on learning anxiety of the students which means anxiety of the students in academics doesn't have to do with how the students easily use the or adapt the new learning style.

The study of Itmeizeh and Farrah (2021) was tackled about the perception of teachers and students on the implementation of online application. According to the researchers the education institutions worldwide deal with the sudden changes of traditional face to face to online platforms. The said university named palestine is where the.research conducted, this university used different styles in online learning such as the synchronous which the students and teacher have a virtual meeting in online platforms and asynchronous which the students are given a task to do on their own.

This study investigated which range of online applications in the said university reach the standard of online modality. To the research is able to have a result, they had 139 students participate in the study. By the participant's answer it showed that online application of the university met the standard of online learning. In able to be sure, 32 teachers responded; it also resulted as high as the score of the students. In addition there's no statistically difference between the two sectors of participants.

2.1 Problem Statement The study focuses on the impact of online and modular learning to the academic performance of senior high school students. The researchers aim the following questions in this study:

1. What are the advantages of online and modular learning as perceived by the respondents? 2. What are the difficulties that the respondents encountered with these modes of learning? 3. In the perspective of the respondents, how could these modes of learning be more effective? 4. What are the differences of these modes of learning compared to the traditional way of learning as perceived by the respondents? 5. Overall, what are the changes the respondents encountered with these modes of learning?

2.2 Conceptual Framework The conceptual framework of the study, Our title research is the “The impact of online and modular learning to the academic performance of senior high school of our lady of fatima university, wherein it shows the cause and relationship of dependent and independent variables.
