LEARNING TASK : The Odyssey 1. What are 3 examples of times when Odysseus demonstrated epic hero/God-like qualities in The Odyssey?

When it comes to The Odyssey by Homer, one of the biggest things focused on is the hero's image. Bravery is considered a paramount quality of a hero. During the time of The Odyssey, being brave was seen as one of the most important things, and Odysseus upholds the quality. Odysseus is known as a heroic figure, the King of Ithaca, and an epic hero. The three examples of times when Odysseus demonstrated epic hero/God-like qualities in The Odyssey are: when Odysseus defeated the giant monster Cyclops, escaping the song of death Sirens, and defeating his enemy Antinous upon attempting to steal his wife, Penelope.

Firstly, what proves Odysseus was smart and brave enough is when he blinded the Cyclops and saved his friends from the Cyclops` cave. Odysseus finds a way to escape from the cave by not killing the Cyclops but by driving the wooden stake into the Cyclops` eye because he knew that he needed the Cyclops to move the stone in front of the entrance for them to escape from the cave.

Secondly, what proves that Odysseus is wise and loves his crew so much is when he protects his friends from the Sirens by putting beeswax on their ears so that they cannot hear the songs of death from the Sirens. Eventually, they manage to escape from the Sirens.

Lastly, what proves that Odysseus is willing to do almost anything to have his wife back after 20 years of not seeing each other is when he defeats Antinous and all the other suitors of his wife, Penelope.

Overall, Odysseus was a heroic figure and went through many hardships to become the hero he is today in Greek mythology. Despite the challenges that arise that prevent him from returning home, he stays brave and loyal to his family and homeland....
