Description

Tyrese Yu Mr. Garrity English 1 Honors 26 October 2021 "The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses" Short Response The simple truth that Head illustrates in “The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses” is that people will take advantage of others in order to get what is right. In “The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses,” the warder treated Span One harshly because of their race. Brille caught Hannetjie stealing fertilizer and took advantage of this event by making Hannetjie bribe him to give him tobacco in order for Brille not to tell on him. Brille still took advantage of Hannetjie and got him in trouble and Hannetjie was fined a huge amount of money. “‘I can give you anything you want,’ Warder Hannetjie said… ‘I think I can manage if it’s tobacco you want,’ he said… ‘We want a good warder because without a good warder we won’t be able to manage the long stretch ahead’ (Head 36). It is particularly meaningful for Head to give her cultural point of view to show the readers her side of the story and it makes it easier for her to understand what Brille is going through and she can relate to who she is writing about and describe Brille’s feelings easier. It is also meaningful for Head to give her cultural point of view to show the readers what she is going through and maybe the readers would want to help or can understand their point of view....
