Alfonso 1 Diamante Rosa Alfonso HUM 2211 Professor Prolux 4 June 2019 The Thousand and One Nights A framing tale is a tale composed of different stories all united to make one overall main story. The Thousand and One Nights is exactly that, a story that unites over two hundred and fifty different stories into one huge narrative. The Thousand and One Nights is believed to be from Scheherazade, a woman that chooses to marry King Shahryar, who kills every woman he marries after the first night due to fear of infidelity. In order to survive, and Scheherazade begins to tell a story that has no ending until the next night. As the next night arrives, Scheherazade incorporates another story into the mix. The framing tale serves two purposes: survival and defiance towards the king. The Thousand and One Nights has served as a basis for many of our children tales, “… It contains… the adventures of Sinbad the Sailor, Ali Baba, and Aladdin to name a few.” This in itself portrays just how much The Thousand and One Nights has reflected into todays society and has become an engraved part into our everyday lives. It all began with Scheherazade trying to survive one more night....
