Description

Thermocline and Halocline 1. Describe how salinity changes with depth. As salinity is higher, depth is not as low. If salinity is at 36.8ppt, depth is at 0m whereas if salinity is at 35ppt, depth is around 2000m - 4000m. 2. Describe how temperature changes with depth. As temperature is higher, depth is not as low. If you look at temperature at 23°C, depth is at 0m whereas temperature at 4°C, depth is at 1000m. 3. Based on just the relationship between temperature and density, how do you expect density to change with depth in the ocean? Please take care to discuss this question thoughtfully. How might temperature and salinity affect density in the context of the density equation? As temperature decreases with density getting higher, I expect density to be higher with depth in the ocean. With everything being above the water which the weight of the water will be pretty heavy, as you go deeper into the water; there is more pressure. Pressure leads to density increase. Temperature affects density by the warmer the water, the more space it takes up which is the volume and vice versa. Salinity affects density by creating a higher mass whereas the volume decreases as it most likely will dissolve....
