Police is defined as being the holder of the law and implementing the law into society and implies compulsory compliance, policing suggests that it is a voluntary adherence. Define the below terms and give an example: A. The community and police work together analysing community problems and developing customized responses to them. 3. What is meant by ‘police discretion’ and why is it important? - Police officers are given the right and opportunity to act according to their discretion in stopping people, arresting them and using force to bring about an arrest, as well as discretion means the power and ability to make decisions. I believe it is important as it set boundaries with law enforcement as well as affect on relationship with communities.
