Description

Understanding and being able to predict health related behaviors is an important skill which helps the management of different sicknesses .Daily habits involving diet, exercise, safety practices and substance use are not only related to diseases but also affect the management of chronic illness and degree of disability (Fries,2002).

Being able to explain and predict health related behaviors can go a long way in reducing diseases. According to Ogden (2017), common health related behaviors include diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol use, safety practices and participation in health related screening examinations. It is of paramount importance to be in a position to predict and explain these behaviors as negative behaviors pose as a health consequence. It cannot be ignored that regular physical activity is linked with lower deaths for adults in any age. Thus, being able to explain and predict health related behaviors is vital as it goes a long way in reducing deaths hence serving lives.

They are some health related behaviors which are common among low socioeconomic groups and contribute to health disparities. The importance of knowing related behaviors, beliefs of different societies can help one to mitigate and help certain societies to compromise routines and habits that can make up a healthy lifestyle.

Research suggests that bowel cancer is linked to behaviors such as a diet high in total fat, high in meat, and low in fiber (Ogden, 2017). In addition, inadequate healthy diet intake is a common among many people in poverty stricken nations. Ogden (2017) connotes that behaviors that have a negative impact on health such as smoking, eating foods high in fat, drinking large amounts of alcohol are critical. Thus, knowing the importance of being able to explain and predict health related behaviors can help people to make conscious decisions about health if possible change their behavior for them to live a healthy life.

The Health Belief Model (HBM) was developed initially by Rosenstock (1966) predicts that behavior is a result of a set of core beliefs (Ogden, 2017). The HBM help to explain why individuals and communities behave the way they do. This model is very relevant as it addresses the readiness to act upon a heath behavior based upon several individual beliefs.

The belief and behavior models include two consult cues to action and self-efficacy. These cues to action are events that spur individuals towards action (Ogden, 2017). For instance, a person can watch a documentary on television about the importance of weight loss or eating health which can motivate him or her to follow good eating habits. Self-efficacy refers to an individual ´s confidence that he or she can successfully carry out indicated actions. If true individuals do

not believe they are likely to do so (Rimer, Glanz, and Lewis, 2002). Thus, to a great extent models of belief and behavior help to explain actual behaviors. In addition, health behavior help in the examination of brooder self-management abilities related to maintenance of holistic wellness. It is important for one to foster and maintain positive health behaviors. To what extent do people’s beliefs and behaviors retard the fights against COVID19?
