Unit 3 FRQ...

Description

You are jogging on a beach and you see the sun setting in the distance. You stop, grab your phone from your sport armband to snap a picture and post on Instagram. As you are doing this, you hear a voice calling your name, which causes you to shake a bit right as you take the picture. This makes you sad, but you are happy because you realize that the person that called you is a close friend that you haven’t seen in years. Question: Name and/or draw the neural pathways and systems that you THINK are involved in this. 

Emotion o (Calling name) Information enters the auditory cortex and is sent to the basolateral nuclear group of the amygdala o (Hearing name) Arcuate fasciculus/Perisylvian pathway o (Sad then happy) The anterior commissure white matter pathway connects the anterior temporal lobe with the amygdala and is involved with balancing of emotional events.

Memory (remembering friend) o Amygdala for emotional memory o Hippocampal formation for long-term memory o Trisynaptic pathway: reinstatement of the same synaptic connections that encode the memory results in recalling the memory  Unimodal association areas  Perirhinal and parahippocampal cortex  entorhinal cortex  Dentate  CA3  CA1  Subiculum  back to entorhinal o Inferior longitudinal fasciculus  Runs from occipital to anterior temporal lab  Object/face recognition o Splenium of the corpus callosum connects bilateral visual cortices

Voluntary movement o Premotor  striatum (caudate + putamen) inhibits globus pallidus disinhibits VL of the thalamus  primary motor cortex o Primary motor cortex  cerebral peduncle  pons  medulla oblongata  cerebellum Lateral corticospinal tract (stopping to grab phone)

Ventral corticospinal tract (head/neck movement)...
