What is Postpartum Psychosis ?, who is at higher risk of developing it?
Postpartum psychosis is a serious mental health illness that can affect someone after having a baby. This mental illness affects around 1 in 500 mothers after giving birth. There are some groups of women with a history of bipolar disorder are at high risk for postpartum psychosis. Postpartum depression begins in the first few days to weeks after child birth. The risk factors of postpartum psychosis are a personal or family history of bipolar disorder or a previous psychotic episode. The women who develop a postpartum psychosis the research suggested that there is approximately a 5% suicide rate and a 4% infanticide rate accosiated with the illness. There were also studies shown that single mothers or women who aren’t cohabitating with the father of the child are more prone to having postpartum psychosis....
