Example 𝑥 − 12 = 5 𝑥 − 12 + 𝟏𝟐 = 5 + 𝟏𝟐 𝑥 = 17

 Add 12 to both sides  Combine like terms

1) 𝑥 + 8 = 2

2) 𝑥 − 1 = −1

𝑥+8−𝟖=2−𝟖

𝑥 − 1 + 𝟏 = −1 + 𝟏

3) 𝑥 − 3 = 4
