Description

In this meeting we focused on analyzing our past authority figures. We began talking about how and why each utilized various styles of leadership. One example a student brought up is how teachers use authoritarian style . This is likely due to the fact that students are younger and teachers often underestimate them and use this style as a form of control .University is a different story. We concluded that democratic form of leadership is more of what is shown. Due to the fact that in university we are given more freedom. I really like the change in pace between highschool and university where I am able to make more of my own decisions. Even if I make mistakes I feel that it provides me more with a learning experience then having someone tell you what to do. In my experience having an authoritarian leader like a boss is not bad. Working in the summer allowed me to gain experience but also allowed me to observe various leadership styles. At the CN tower, where I worked, there were different leaders in each sector, however each leader collaborated and told the rest of the team what to do. So although there was a chain of command it felt more like having various different bosses and as confusing as that way it also taught me how to deal with various leadership styles. I would say Laissez-faire leaders are really cool because you always want to feel that your boss has trust in you and the training they provided to make the right decisions within the job. At the CN tower nobody looks over your shoulder to see if you are doing the right thing. We are free to make various decisions within our positions of power for the tower and for the safety of the guests that enter utilizing the training we were taught....
