05.04 Holocaust: Assignment Why were you persecuted? Our religion was the reason my family and I were persecuted. Being Jewish wasn't something Hitler liked much. He wanted ALL of us to suffer. I saw and experienced it all, from concentration camps to watching people die in front of my eyes.

What will your future bring? Predict what you think will happen to you now that you have been liberated. How has the world changed since your imprisonment? How have you changed? Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland was the camp that I was at. It wasn't a place that felt like home to me, of course. It wasn't a place to enjoy. Harsh conditions everywhere you turned. I saw many people die left and right. I didn't know where my family was. I cried every night hoping to see them again, I never did though. The U.S. knew about my situation, but they treated it as if it was a rumor.

Where did you go? Describe your experience at the camp. What happened to your family? How did the United States respond to your experience? I never saw my family after the day they captured us. I was independent and alone for a while after that. I had PTSD and saw a therapist for a few years after that. I have moments where it's hard,but I am now a person who talks to people about my experience. Everybody is trying to forget what happened, but I never will. I grew stronger from this even though I feel so weak at times....
