05.06 War Ends Instructions In this lesson, you saw the vast differences in how World War II ended in the European and Pacific Theaters. Use this knowledge to explain the decision to use atomic bombs on Japan. For this assignment you will write three well-developed paragraphs on the following: What were the reasons the bomb should have been used on Japan? What were the reasons the bomb should not have been used on Japan? Should the atomic bomb have been used on Japan? Why or why not? Support your claim with evidence from the lesson. What were the reasons the bomb should have been used on Japan? The main reason for the use of the bomb of Japan was to get Japan to surrender and to end the war. President Truman approved of the use of the atomic bomb on Japan because he had already once tried to get them peacefully through the Potsdam declaration but Japan failed to respond. Some people disagreed with Truman's ideas of dropping the atomic bomb since they thought logically since Japan was loosing to the US they would surrender, however Truman had given them two chances and they still had not surrendered. So on Aug 6, 1945 the U.S bombed the Japanese city of Hiroshima and three days later on Aug 9, 1945 they bombed the city of Nagasaki, after the events Japan finally surrendered and the war was over. What were the reasons the bomb should not have been used on Japan? The most basic reason why the bomb should not have been dropped on Japan is that it took so many innocent lives. It caused mass destruction and the after effects of the bomb killed even more people. It is estimated that a total of 90,000–146,000 people in Hiroshima and 39,000–80,000 people in Nagasaki. But only half of those people died

right after after the bomb was dropped, in the weeks and months to come the radiation caused the death of many more people who got sick from it. The damage caused by this bomb lasted for decades and unfortunately those survivors of the bomb will never overcome the destruction it has caused to them. Should the atomic bomb have been used on Japan? Why or why not? Support your claim with evidence from the lesson. In my opinion no the bomb should not have been used on Japan. Some people may say that the U.S was desperate to end the war, however there could have been other ways to achieve that without causing so much destruction and the death of thousands of people. For example they could have bombed the cities with smaller bombs to get the point across to them but at the same time not cause so much destruction to the cities. In the long run they may have done it for a good cause but the good was taken away when you killed all of those innocent people and those who remained alive you left homeless and scared....
