What is the landmark
The Island Trees School District’s board of education wanted to ban
case about and how
books from their library that they felt were inappropriate. The board
was this amendment
claimed the books were “un-american, un-christian, anti-semitic and

just plain filthy”. The Court voted that the books could not be banned because banning them would be a violation of the 1st amendment. Banning the books would go against freedom of speech and press.
