A Human Service Professional is “An educated and trained individual who provides services to individual, families, groups, and communities in need.” (Woodside & McClam, 2015) I would like to work for New Jersey’s Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities. “The Division of Developmental Disabilities provides public funding for services and supports that assist New Jersey adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities age 21 and older to live as independently as possible. Services and supports are available in the community from independent providers, and in five state-run developmental centers.” (A., 2010)

Social and human service assistants help people with disabilities find rehabilitation services. They work with employers to make a job more accessible to people with disabilities. Some social and human service assistance locate personal care services to aid clients with daily living activities, such as bathing and making meals. If I were asked to assistant a client with services, I would begin by researching programs based on the needs of the client. Beginning with the healthcare provider, I would start assessing what programs were available. Then, I would network with collogues for other state programs and funding that the client may require. Finally, I would team up with the client’s local agencies to investigate possible services.
