Description

The Word Association Game Purpose: This exercise is designed to help you understand which “strategy” perspective/school you tend to endorse. The exercise is simple. List all those words you normally associate with the word strategy.

Word Association Game Interpretation Check your own choice of words against the list of words below. With which School did you have the most corresponding or closest words? This should give you some indication of your favoured strategy school (however implicit) and personal biases about the nature of strategic management. This, of course, is not a psychometrically valid test; it is designed simply to give you an indication of the school of thought from which you tend to operate (it will also hopefully serve as a learning tool – to help you remember key features of each school). The Word Association Game Another way of interpreting your words is to use them to determine if you are a potentially ’right-handed’ or ’left-handed’ strategist. Check your own choice of words against the list provided by your instructor. This should give you some idea of which mode tends to dominate. ’Right-handed’ strategists tend to be informed (for the most part) by the design, planning and positioning schools, while left-handed planners tend to endorse the entrepreneurial”, “learning”, “political” and “cultural” schools. As you read through the try to develop that mode on which you scored the least (pay more attention to the corresponding chapters!)
